Taking Parlodel

Glow

Some women struggle with conceiving because they produce too much prolactin, a hormone that prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg each month. Parlodel is used to correct that hormonal imbalance, allowing the body to resume normal ovulation.

About Parlodel

Prolactin is produced in the brain by the pituitary gland; increased levels of prolactin in the body lead to a condition called hyperprolactinemia. These prolactin increases are typically caused by irregularities with the pituitary gland, the thyroid gland, or because of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Parlodel increases the production of dopamine in the brain, which, in turn, suppresses prolactin production. When Parlodel is taken regularly, prolactin levels eventually return to normal, which allows the body to resume regular menstruation and ovulation.

How to Take Parlodel

Parlodel is taken orally, typically twice or three times daily with meals. It often takes a few months of consistent dosage before the body's prolactin levels are reduced and regulated. Once prolactin production reaches normal levels, a woman will begin menstruating and ovulating regularly, allowing her to conceive naturally.

It is considered safe to take Parlodel for long periods of time, even years. However, once a pregnancy is successfully achieved, Parlodel can be stopped.
