Help! Cat coming in my house 😩

Someone in my street has a tabby cat that keeps coming into my house. He looks well cared for, nice coat, not under/overweight, has a collar etc (no address tag as far as I can see) so i know he’s 100% not a stray. He’s been breaking into our kitchen through the cat flap for about 12 months but we can never catch him or stop him 😩 our cats don’t have collars so as soon as we hear him we have a cup of water on the counter that we try and throw to deter him but he’s always out the flap and gone by time we get near him, he hears us get up. We recently had our old door blocked up and moved the cat flap to some glass doors about 12ft away - my own two cats took 2-3 days to work it out - he figured it out the first night! I was soo hoping moving the flap might stop him but no.We ensure the bowls are moved once ours are fed to try and keep food out of the equation.Last night we accidentally left a (sealed!) pack of wraps on the counter and we’re pretty sure he’s been at them because in 5 years my own have never gone for food we’ve left out. The packet was ripped to shreds. My OH isn’t a cat person, he quietly tolerates the two we have because he knows I love them but I 100% agree with him that we don’t want someone else’s cat coming in our house and need to stop him. Clean though he looks we don’t know his vaccination/flea/worming status and we have a toddler and a another baby on the way.My partner blew this morning after the cat had quite likely jumped the counter and said “that’s it now, cat flap is locked at night and no cats come in at all”. We can’t keep ours in because the younger of the two gets highly stressed and even with access to a tray will pee beside it and equally I don’t want to penalise ours by locking them out either when they aren’t doing anything wrong 😫Any tips on what I can do? I contemplated knocking doors to see who’s cat it could be but I know if someone knocked my door I’d be just as stuck on what I could do if it was one of mine and would only be able to suggest throwing water at them to deter them.Edit to add: the last cat flap in the wood door was a chip reader one, but for some reason my cats chips seem to relocate/migrate (happened to my cat that passed before I had these guys and one of the ones I have now) and they were also difficult to train with it so we turned the chip reader setting off and settled on a standard cat flap for the glass door because the old one had been used as a standard flap so it felt like a huge waste of money 😩

Brand new cat parents

I have a question…How do we get our furbabies to stop scratching our furniture? I trim their nails about every 2 weeks and they have plenty of scratch posts…Any tips? Thank you in advance!!

Well I have 2 cats and 1 kitten so scratching happens a lot on furniture, what I do is to get scratching posts WITH cat nip, and you need like a castle for them to hang about in and chill while scratching and stretching in , this helps a lot and I highly recommend it

Wouldnt give me back the remote 😂😂

Can someone help! Regarding my cat :(

Guys my cat is 16 years old, she's never been a ill cat she's had a lovely healthy life. Me and my brother moved home a few years ago and since the last 4 months she's been very out of character. Such as peeing everywhere, struggling with her back legs (arthritis) she's falling over a little bit. Now my mum had been backwards and forwards with the vests having tests etc. They've said it's old age and nothing else. She's in a bit of a bad way, she has a rash on her bum, she's pooing and peeing everywhere today. My mum and brother think it's time to get her put down. Something is definitely up with her! From Looking at her, I don't think this is the end. She is eating well, still climbing On things. I don't think she's ready to go.Does anyone have any idea what this is or has it happened to anyone else??

Take her to the vet. She could have a UTI and those are extremely hard to treat in cats. The vet will know what’s best for her!

I think she wants me to stop my crochet project and give her attention instead. 🤭

Hahahahaha 😂 that face 😂 I can relate but all she wants is attention and food 😂

Any Veterinarians/cat owners?

Normally I'm not one to make a post like this, but I'm at a loss. My kitty just turned 7 in August. She has had a stuffed nose since late June. I'd make her a vet appointment, but we don't have the money to take her right now. I can hear her breathing from across the room, sometimes from another room. She's been sneezing a lot and stuff comes out, but she won't let me wipe her nose after so she just ends up eating it🤢. It's probably nothing and I've been doing all I can to keep her from getting pneumonia. Any advice would be really helpful.

You need to take her in.. some vets can get you om a payment plan, but you need to take her. You wouldn't not take your child to the dr if they were sick? Not trying to be rude but if you can't afford to keep your animals healthy and get them help when they need it you probably shouldn't have an animal.

Oh I have the opposite problem. My cats looooved that we were home. Since we both were able to start back up both are super clingy and sit at the door crying for us to come back (we have a camera set up to check on them). Often they end up trying to wake us up at night for extra cuddles if they feel we didn't give them enough after work

My cat eats so fast it throws up 😫

My male cat is an absolute greedy sod 😂 to the point he shovels food so quickly into his mouth, then throws it all up cause of how quick he eats it. Any idea how I can stop this?? He’s just threw up all over my carpet 😬

Er

My cat gets that way with a certain brand of cat food. It's her favorite, so if I get it, I only give her smaller portions at a time. It's cute to see her so excited, but it's not fun when they throw up moments later...

Help! What would you name me? I'm a hyper crazy little guy who loves to run & play but also loves sleep & snuggles.

How to restore a relationship with a cat

We adopted our cat a little over a month ago,It's my first cat and I've been disciplining her like a dog because that's what I'm used to. Snapping fingers, saying no sternly, ive bopped her before when biting (not hit), water bottle spray, she's 1 year and 3 months old. I'm also the one that administers her medicine and stuff so I have held her by the back of her neck like the mama cats do in order to do so, and give her baths. I understand that the relationship isn't the best because of how I've been reacting with her. I give her lots of love though, and pets don't get me wrong, she's very loved here, but now I'm realizing that shes scared of me, she still will let me love her and pet her and she comes up to me but If I make a sudden movement, she gets scared. And she's starting to act out more. Idk what to do, I want to keep her in the family and before anyone comes for me, this is my first cat, we love her even though she's a butt, I want to be a good cat owner but idk how to fix this. She has tapeworm right now and just got spayed 2 weeks ago, so it's been rough for her lately. I gave her dewormer today and gave her love after and bought her a new toyI just dont know how to mend this relationship because I feel like I keep gaining her trust and then breaking it when I discipline her or have to hold her down to give her medicine. Please don't judge me, im trying.

(Sorry it ended up being so long. I tried covering all the "easy" bases that you might be having issues with and provide lots of examples.)You can't train her like a dog. It's that simple. Cats do not react well to negative reinforcement - usually makes them scared, and can make them "rebellious" (i.e. make the undesirable behavior worse) if pushed too far.Use treats and redirection. Is she scratching your furniture? Buy a scratching post, pick her up when she's scratching inappropriately and put her on it, and give her a treat. Maybe even buy some catnip and put it on the post. Alternatively, put a scratching post directly in front of wherever she's scratching and you'll eventually be able to move it away from that piece of furniture. Keeping her nails trimmed helps with the behavior as well.Is she peeing inappropriately? Buy some tubs and litter and put them in the places where she is peeing. Try different litters (clay, cedar chips, etc.) and different types of boxes (covered, uncovered, wide, tall, different points of entry, etc.). Give her a treat when she uses the litter box. Make sure when you are cleaning it that you use something that is not ammonia-based because that just "signals" to the cat that it is okay to pee there. Make sure that she's fixed, and figure out if there are animals outside your home that might be "encouraging" this behavior (would be obvious if she's peeing near a good or windows). Clean the litter box daily if you aren't already.Learn YOUR cat. With only having her a month, the skittish behavior may not be a result of you, but rather whatever trauma happened in the 1 year before you. Let her come to you in her own time, and never force the affection. Make sure you're playing with her, but only on her terms. Each cat is really and truly different from each other, so while some people might be able to get away with the squirt bottle, there are plenty of others where it only makes the situation worse. Try different things when something isn't working, but ultimately you are trying to teach her that this is her safe space and that you can live together without her worrying about being in danger.See about other ways of getting her to take meds (sometimes you can put it in their food). Grabbing them by their scruff is good in an emergency, but should not be practiced on the daily as it effectively"paralyzes" them and they don't understand why you're doing it, which is terrifying. Even just flipping her on her back is less terrifying (though awkward) than being grabbed by the scruff. If you're able, make it a team effort with someone else in your home.Watch Jackson Galaxy (not "My Cat From Hell" because some of his practices there are questionable) and other cat behaviorists to learn more about having a cat.

What I just saw on Twitter 😂 🐈‍⬛

Btw if you’re in Wisconsin right now, take cover and stay safe!

Just couldn't pass up the opportunity 😆

The picture is of my cat, Enoch, laying down for the first time out of his own freewill with my son, Silas, trying to get him to play with him. ❤️It made me instantly think of The Creation of Adam painting, so I did a side-by-side. 😂

Newborn kitten

Hi everyone we found a newborn kitten on Wednesday and have been caring for it ever since. It’s doing good eating sleeping, pooping and peeing. It’s eyes are still shut, but ears are up. He is very very active moving around like crazy I can’t really get him to stay still. And is crying like crazy which I assumed was because he wants his mom. I just needed to know if all the fussing is okay. Do I let him cry it out? I have a warm pack and a stuffed animal with a warm pack in it as well. I also have a toothbrush to pet him with. Nothing wrong with poop and he’s not gassy. I just don’t know if there’s something else I should be doing

Not that I know of but they tend to like chewy food but anyway just be cautious about the habit your teaching you kitten because I don’t think you want an adult cat bitting and chewing on your hair, fingers and more because I have a kitten at the moment and she has the exact same problem so we try and teach her to stop biting but tapping her on the head, ectHoped this helped a bit and goodluck

New cat is traumatizing me

I was recommended by a therapist to get an emotional support cat. I have anxiety issues and have previously owned a cat that helped those issues. I went to a local shelter and went with someone I know who has an ESA to find a good fit. After meeting lots of cats, I adopted a male Siamese mix about 2 weeks ago. He was very affectionate and independent and seemed like the perfect fit. We bonded immediately. The day I picked him up, I noticed him trying to bite (in a playful way) my brother’s ankle in the shelter. It stopped and I didn’t think anything of it. Fast forward two weeks and the play-aggression turns out to be a serious issue. I find myself unable to walk when he switches into play mode because he will attack my feet. I upped playtime and switched up toys, redirecting every time he bit or tried to bite. I began trying to ignore him after the behavior, but he didn’t care at all. Not one bit. He doesn’t care about toys. All he cares about it attacking me. I know he’s not bad, and that someone clearly taught him this was appropriate behavior. In fact, he can be quite loving. However, he can turn on me very quickly and it’s terrifying. Yesterday it escalated to him trying to bite my neck, then proceeding to go after both my arms, and when I removed him he began to immediately go after one leg and then go after my other leg. I became very afraid because I could not get him to stop, and I got him off and ran out of the room. I proceeded to have a very bad panic attack and couldn’t calm down. I spent most of today crying because I’m terrified of a cat that loves me. I have health problems that make it very serious should his bites ever break my skin. I went into the room where I have his litter box and food, but began shaking so badly I had to have someone come with me to keep him busy while I took care of him. Every time he approached me I began to panic and cry, begging my brother to keep him away. I am an adult, and I feel like I should be better than this. I feel like a horrible person because I know what the issue is and how to fix it, but it requires me still having to get bit while the problem is being fixed and his attacks are not something I can handle. I couldn’t let any of the farm cats outside (he’s a strictly indoor cat) near me, the nicest and sweetest cats alive, because he’s made me so scared. It’s only been a short time, but I don’t think I’m a good fit for him. I called the shelter I got him from to see what I should do, but the woman made me feel like a horrible person for thinking about bringing him back. I have awful guilt over this, as I am causing distress to him and myself. Part of me wants to push through, but I’m not able to sleep or eat and these panic attacks are some of the worst I’ve had. And he deserves better than that in a home. He needs someone who can work with him. Am I making the right choice? I know this is a lot but I’m scared and conflicted and have no idea what to do. I don’t even know if I could ever get another cat after this and I have always loved and done great with cats.
