Garden planning time!!!

Anyone else super excited to finish planning the garden for the year. We have acres of stuff I do every year but reserve area for a trial garden and every year find new fruits amd veggies to plant or methods to play with. So excited to finish up my garden sketches and get what's needed I to seed cups in the greenhouse and start planting in the coming weeks and months. Most excited about trying the pink popcorn blueberries and pink lemonade blueberries and the chocolate tomatoes so far. Trying goji berries again this year and hoping the moles leave them alone this year. Trying some hay bay gardening and a hugelkultur mound. Anything anyone is trying this year that is new to them?? I love this time of year!!!

Did you know?

You can grow mint in water alone, roots started to form at the bottom there. You cut where levels were and knew things will grow in a jar with water and sunlight ❤️❤️❤️🔥

I can’t seem to keep flowers alive or grow a baby, but I can grow some tomatoes 🍅! Something to be proud of.

Zucchini plant

My zucchini is only producing male flowers? Is this normal? Its been flowering for going on two weeks and I haven't seen a female flower yet. Is there something I'm missing here? *this is also the first garden I've ever had so I literally know nothing about growing anything.

I too am a new gardener so I did some research for you.And this website also goes into greater detail about the flowers and pollination, it is one of my best gardening sites as of right now. https://homeguides.sfgate.com/cukes-zuccini-only-male-flowers-97940.htmlBaaically what these both say are that the male flowers come in first and after about a week or so you should start getting female flowers. But it also depends on your pollinators. Are your plants outside or indoors? If indoors they may need hand pollination for all the flowering time.

Indoor strawberries

I got my first strawberry flower today! Cannot wait to try it! I'm pollinating by hand and with wind since I have no bugs lol. Loving it. Who said I couldn't be a painter? I'll paint my plants!

Tomato Plant Troubles: HELP!

I started my tomatoes from seed and have repotted once. They are about 10 inches tall. However their leaves have started to turn purple on the underside and curl the die. I read it may be from overwatering so I let them dry out and that didn't seem to help. They are being grown inside under grow lights. There is currently 3 seedlings per 4x4 pot. Should I thin them out and put in bigger pot? Idk what else to do. There doesnt seem to be any disease or bugs. I fertilized them hoping that might help.

1st Timer!

So it's my first time ever even trying to plant anything. I went for perennials just as the bulb (I followed the directions on how deep to plant each bulb.) Now when I planted them in the ground I put a little bit of potting soil in with them, not a lot, just a bit, and then I put some Miracle Gro on top after I covered them with my regular soil. Then watered. Does it seem like I did a decent job?I've always wanted to be able to have a flower garden but both my granny's who were awesome at planting have passed away. Please help lol

Sounds like you did great. I always water them right after I plant something so it adjusts to the ground better. It seems to work 🤷‍♀️

Is this normal? Brown spotting on plant

I’m trying to grow green beans in my sunroom. They are growing pretty quick, but there’s a brown spot on this one. (Forgive me, as I don’t know much of anything about gardening, but I wanted to try to plant something and hopefully start a new hobby.)

To me it just looks like part of the seed pod that will eventually fall off. Nothing to worry about!

I know nothing of gardening

So I'm a fucking noob. And I bought cilantro because I really want to start growing my own veggies. But I don't know how to. I bought what I think is soil. Do I have to prep my yard? Or can I put my cilantro somewhere else? What do I do? Please help

I am rather new to gardening as well, I started my garden two years ago and left everything in pots. Does the plant look healthy in its pot? Bright green leaves? Then it’s fine to leave it there. But if you start to see that it’s getting brown, or too big for the pot then you can re-pot. Make sure to us fresh soil(comes from a bag) that is for vegetables. Some other soils for flowers and plants may contain unsafe fertilizers that shouldn’t be consumed. I hope this helps. By the way, I have tried planting cilantro twice already and each time, my seeds sprout and begin to grow but the intense heat of where I live makes the cilantro bolt(plant begins to flower and produce seeds) and dies shortly after. Keep cilantro with plenty of water and in a shaded area that gets sun but not full sun all day.

Advice please....

So it’s my first year growing anything so im completely useless with this stuff.. How do I heat my walk in greenhouse over the colder months/ winter?? (This is a picture from few months ago) Really don’t want our plants and fruit and veg to die on us over winter... Help please anyone....

If there’s a lot of sun hitting it place a bunch of 1 gallon jugs of water filled 3/4th of the way and paint it black or use black food coloring. It will absorb during the day and release at night

Green thumb 🌴

So I had bought a mini palm tree on Amazon it was healthy for a while , until I slept over my boyfriends one weekend and my mom over watered it ... thought she was helping me lol she didn’t know though , but they require very little water. The roots rotted. So I attempted to cleanse them with some epsom salt and beer info that I found online ... it didn’t work right away , so I brought it outside for more sunlight. The leaves slowly dried and turned brown. So I decided to cut them all off , then literally 2 weeks later I have 2 full green leaves it made my morning today :)

Anyone know what plant this is? We just pulled a tiny one up from the back yard and it had an 8' root system. Worried about how big this one's system is and if it will do any damage under ground.

A little garden update

Cucumbers, tomatoes, corn coming in strong and laid my vidalia onions and shallots out to cure. My kale is still growing like crazy, but my romaine and Swiss chard have gone to seed so I need to take them out

Start them young

Baby girl loves being in the garden and demands a snap pea everytime we’re in there

Mmmm snap peas! I’ve been picking them every day for 2 weeks now! Best snack ever.

Dehydrator and Canning

I’m at the point where some of my veggies are growing way past the point i can use them all. I usually give some away to neighbors and family but I’m thinking of getting into canning and dehydrating so I can make my own things like salsas, sauces, or even just preserve some of veggies the way they are. Only thing is these are both pretty expensive undertakings so I’m curious if anyone cans and jars their own food. My oven has a dehydrating option so I’m going to try that out this upcoming weekend but is canning and jarring worth it? How long does it generally take? How long to master it? And if someone could give me a basic starter list of things I’ll need or what I should have that oils be great too. The internet is giving me lots of different results so I’d like to hear from someone who does it regularly. Please and thank you!

My little oasis 🌞🌿🌻

The garden is starting to produce and I’m so excited! Got some snap peas, string beans, summer squash, and tomatoes that should be ready by next week. Cucumber is starting to grow and corn is coming in strong. This is my favorite place to be 🥰♥️🌱
