There seems to be a lot of misconception about implantation bleeding. How long it is, how heavy it should be, etc.

I'm not a professional but I have experienced implantation bleeding with both of my pregnancies so I thought I'd share my stories.

With my first pregnancy (Jan 2021), I had bleeding right around the time my period was due. It lasted for 3 days and was heavy enough that I used tampons for 1.5 days. I thought it was strange for me as I usually had 5 days periods with 2 days of spotting before. However, everything I read said that the bleeding I had was too heavy to be implantation bleeding and was likely just a weird period. Around a week later I started to get symptoms like fatigue, nausea and really sore boobs. But I didn't want to be the crazy lady who took a pregnancy test even though she had a period. A week after that I had another small bleed and started to think something was wrong. I was about to book a GP appointment but was advised to take a pregnancy first. I was so shocked when it was positive. I was already 8 weeks pregnant at this point. I later found out that I ovulated a week later than I initially thought and this implantation bleeding was at 6-9dpo.

With my second pregnancy (Nov 2022), I started bleeding around 5/6dpo. It was lighter this time, heavy enough for a panty liner but not heavy enough for tampons. It lasted for 7/8 days. Given my experience with my first pregnancy, I was pretty sure I was pregnant this time. I took a test 3 days before my period was due and it was positive.

Both of my experiences were very different and also nothing like implantation bleeding is described to be (very light, lasting just a few hours to a couple of days).

I'm currently 6/7dpo of TTC cycle #4 trying for baby #3 and started bleeding lightly yesterday. Hoping this is a good sign and I'll get my BFP next week. I'll keep you updated.
