I think it's better to remove a person who is absolutely, without a doubt detrimental to society FROM this world entirely instead of paying for them to live in a cage for the rest of their lives.

But it had better be beyond the shadow of a doubt that they did it.

The right to life is a basic human right. I don't believe anyone should be stripped of it unless it is their own will.

I suppose it comes down to whether you can say without a doubt that, that person is guilty. I would absolutely hate it if someone was innocent and got put to death because we got it wrong.

The death penalty is immoral: our justice system isn't perfect, police/labs/eyewitnesses/juries/judges aren't infallible, it's applied in a racist way, it's obviously irreversible, and life is a fundamental right even for those who violate that right for others. Even if I didn't believe life was an inalienable right, I'd still find the death penalty and it's application unethical. The chances of killing a person innocent of the crime(s) for which he or she is convicted is not zero on a systemic level, and unlike jail time the death penalty cannot be compensated for in the event that innocence is later proven. I'm all for removing certain criminals from society indefinitely, and it's tempting to want to end the life of a "monster" whose guilt is unquestionable - but in practice we are killing the mentally ill and black people at disproportionately high rates, and yes, occasionally people whom we later discover are innocent. That sickens me.

The government should not be allowed to kill people. Period.

First of all, it's all little unnerving to give government that power. But more importantly we can never be certain that sometime is guilty. Beyond a reasonable doubt just isn't strong enough. You can't undo the death penalty once it's done.

So we can keep someone in jail a few years just so they can be released and can hurt others again, we could keep them in jail forever paying for them to live, or we could just kill them which eliminates the ability to hurt others later and they aren't cared for in a human zoo. People fail to realize that most prisons do enforce 0 tolerance for rape and violence.

If it's someone who has committed multiple crimes and keeps coming back to jail over and over again then i say save the time, effort, money, etc and do the death penalty. Same goes to murderers or any horrible case with undeniable evidence. I also think the victim/victims family should have a say in the sentencing.

I beleive rapists/ murderers/ paedophiles should relieve the death penalty.

However when I say this I also mean if a police man kills someone and it wasn't justified then they too; should also suffer the consequences.

It costs the government billions to keep prisoners.

I come from the UK, so we abolished the death penalty long ago. But, I'm very much in favour of bringing it back.
