Do pets get bored? Or depression?

Yes!  Absolutely.   They do experience both.

I think they have a larger array of feelings than we think too.   (Like being mad, upset, or spiteful).

Sometimes depression in a dog can be related to medical issues like thyroid problems. One of the "classic" looks is a "depressed face".

My dog just went through some very bad depression after the loss of our other dog. (She was 15 and we had to put her down).   She knew something was "wrong" with her too.  She would lick the area on her back just prior to her tumor popping up and being palpable or visible. She acted different when she was sick too.   She will not walk too close to the area we buried her either.....she looks at it, looks at me, then puts her head down.  It was both their favorite place to lay out in the sun....she will not go near it anymore. (She was outside with us when we buried her).  She didn't eat for days after her passing and her favorite treats or bone was untouched and she didn't want them.

There's other stuff she did too but to make a long story short, yes, they experience both

Yesss. Lmao my orange cat goes absolutely crazy when my mom isn't around. She cries and cries and starts carrying around socks? No one knows why but they are ALWAYS fuzzy socks😂 anyways, when my mom was in the hospital, she got very depressed and wouldn't come out until my mom got home.

Pets can 100% get depressed. I've heard of it more in dogs though.

My husbands works out of town and when he is gone his dog gets so depressed she won't eat hardly anything at all, won't play, won't do anything. She loses weight but as soon as he gets back in town she is back to her self

Absolutely. My horse was bored when we got him, since his previous owner could not handle him. His boredom caused him to throw tantrums and develope some nasty behaviors. But he was just soured from sitting around all day barely being used because she was terrified of him. He went from barely rideable in the spring to state level competition in the fall. Where we placed 7th (out of 200) state level and reserve champion region wise. There was a lot of work to be done on him but emotionally it was just a matter of occupying his mind. 
Now my poor guy is depressed from having to sit in pasture as his foot heals from the foot diesease he was diagnosed with two years ago. He is unridable at the moment and very sad about it. There's not much I can do except keep him from getting too bored. 
But yes, every animal can experience e boredom and depression.

Pets are sentient beings. They have feelings like depression, loss, happiness, so on. They suffer from their own diseases just like us. Depression, STDs, colds, cancer... 
You're not so different from Fido and Fluffy, as much as people want to think otherwise.

Yes and yes. I work in a pet hospital and we have patients that are treated for depression and anxiety with anti-depressants. They feel the same emotions we do, even if they don't express them in the same ways.

I wish I could adopt every animal that didn't have an owner. Animals are such amazing creatures, I just feel sad for them they're not always around other animals or people that love them. I believe they can get bored and depressed, which would be pretty easy considering they're alone a lot of the time. Like humans, they need someone to love and someone who loves them back.
