Empty sac to strong heartbeat!
Since I had been frantically looking for posts like these the last two weeks, I wanted to give some of you early scanners some hope! I went in for my initial appointment on March 16 when I thought I was at 6 weeks (I had an early miscarriage the month prior, so they wanted to check me early).
I had a transvaginal ultrasound and although I knew a heartbeat was going to be hit or miss at 6 weeks, I thought we'd at least see a yolk sac and fetal pole. However it was just an empty gestational sac. To my doctors credit, he assured me that there was no reason for alarm yet, but he also said I looked more like 4-5 weeks, which based on the last time we had sex was bordering on impossible. He told me to come back in two weeks to get another scan.
Today, 12 days later, was that next scan. And boom! A baby and a heartbeat both visible/audible even with an abdominal scan. The tech then did a transvaginal one to nail down the age and heart rate and I'm measuring 7W2D with a heartbeat of 152!! We couldn't believe how strong the heartbeat sounded!
So please, those of you who are in the same boat I was in, hang in there and have faith in the process!
