First time TTC - advice?

Hi all! I'm 31 years old and never tried to get pregnant before. My bf and I have just started trying this month. I've been told the older you are, the harder it is to conceive. I've also been told that if you've never been on birth control and have regular periods (both true for me), the chances are better. Is any of this true? I've never taken fertility tests or anything like that. Looking for any advice anyone can offer on successfully conceiving. Thanks!
