Gbs test?

My group b strep test came back positive. And all I've ever heard about it was that your supposed to be administered antibiotics 4 hours before having your baby so the infection isn't passed. I asked my ob about it and she said that I would just stay in the hospital an extra day and they would put the antibiotic in my IV. My best friend said that her doctor told her if she came back positive for it they would start her on antibiotics at 35 weeks. I'm so confused?

I was induced last time so they started me in the antibiotics first and then a few hours later started the pitocin. If they give it to you too early I believe there's a chance it can recur so that's why they wait till you're in labor.

I'm positive too. Starting antibiotics that early (35 weeks) is silly because they will have a chance to recolonize in the meantime. I heard I will get a dose when I get there and then every 4 hours through labor. I just trust they know what they are doing.

My OB said it was fine, as long as im under antibiotics on the day i deliver baby boy...

I have the same thing and I'm 36 weeks and 4 days my doctor said when I go into labor 4 hours before the baby is born 😕my concern is if the baby decides to come fast then there is no time ! So what are we supposed to do??

It can come back if treated too soon. That's why they test around week 37. They normally have you come in right when you go into labor to put you on antibiotics.

Oral antibiotics take up to two weeks to fully work. That's why they say do not stop taking them, take every pill until you are done with the prescription. If you quit within a week, you get no benefit. IV antibiotics work a lot faster, since it's directly into your blood stream and works faster than oral antibiotics.

That's weird!! Wth my first they did the antibiotics and I stayed the extra day. It'll will be the same for this baby too. But I never started antibiotics weeks beforehand. 🤔

I haven't heard of getting antibiotics before just while your in labour

I've only ever heard of them giving the antibiotics once you go into labor.

I tested positive with my first. My OB told me as soon as my water broke to come into he hospital and they would put me on antibiotics then, which they did.
