Sleeping while first starting birth control

I just started birth control on Thursday of last week. I have been experiencing very aggressive side effects, and the one most difficult for me to deal with is that I can't sleep without some kind of aid. When I do wake up, I can barely keep my eyes open. I've heard that this is a fairly common symptom of pms, as well as from starting the pill. How many of you have experienced this? How long did it last? Thanks a ton!
