Deli meat - to eat or not to eat

So I've been told many times deli meat is bad for you because it contains nitrates/nitrites and could possibly carry listeria. Yesterday at the store I found Oscar Meyer natural deli meat that contains no nitrates, nitrites, artificial ingredients, preservatives, artificial colors/flavored, and no gluten. My question is, do I still need to cook it to prevent listeria? Or is this just a bad idea altogether?
