What do you count as the first day of AF?

Do you call the first day of heavy flow "Cycle day 1,", or does spotting count as the beginning of AF for charting purposes?

I was told by my dr it is the first day of bright red blood. I spot a few days before I start.

This past cycle I started from the first day of flow and Glow had my ovulation day and fertile window off which thankfully I caught using OPKs. I spot for two days before period and when I adjusted my period in Glow to count spotting as CD1 the fertile window matched the actual window found by OPK if that makes sense. Now I will always use spotting as CD1. I should also say my period is usually light.

I use flow because if you spot the spotting could stop if you are pregnant.  By that point you have already triggered a new cycle in glow.

I started my period last night aroundb1030 and at the Dr this morning he told me to count today as cd1.  Idk why tho.
