New tattoo has funny smell

I got a new tattoo on Saturday and I have been doing all the aftercare my artist instructed. It has been healing fine. This morning (day 4) I woke up and it was peeling. I showered and got ready and put ointment on it. I am sitting at work and noticed that my arm smells funny where I got the tattoo. Is this normal? It doesn't look infected or red. It's itchy but I'm assuming from the peeling. It still hurts a bit around my muscle. What do you all think. Any advice would help!
