Heartworms in Dogs?

Question

Has anyone had a dog that developed heartworms? My dog has been coughing a lot, antibiotics haven't worked, and I'm worried at this point. The vet had mentioned possible heart disease, and I just read heartworms can cause coughing too. I'm taking her to the hospital this weekend but I just want to see if any of you guys has had a dog with heartworms. What was that like? Did they cough?

Heartworm means your dog is going to die. You should have had them on monthly preventative medicine.

I had a dog with heart worms, he passed away after lots of treatment, but I can say he never coughed. One thing vets usually try to look over is the possibility of Kennel Cough. I would look into this more than anything. Good luck!

I had a husky when I was younger and she got heartworm she had the cough spent 500 dollars and she no longer had heartworm. Not all dogs that have heartworm make it though. It's def way cheaper to just get the 6 month heartworm prevention. Hope your baby is going to be okay.

Treatment for heartworms is costly, but doesn't mean they r def gonna die. But I agree, prevention is easier than the cost of treatment. And yes coughing is a symptom of heartworms.  *praying for your pup*

We once had a dog from the shelter that had heartworms. He had to be given medicine and treatment frequently. He didn't have a cough so maybe that's something else? Not sure, but he lived a great long life with the continued treatments!
