Opinions on Culture Appropriation?

My opinion:

I think some points of it are stupid like white people shouldn't wear braids or dreads. I could care less if they do that, it's their hair. Just don't change the name of it (ex. Cornrows and Boxer Braids). The part I do agree with is not wearing certain things as fashion, for example, hijabs, kimonos (Not cardigans but actual kimonos), American Indian tribal wear, etc.

I think that you cannot tell appropriation from exchange on a first glance.

I don't think that all cultural appropriation deserves the same reaction.

I think cultural appropriation has an situational and a societal aspect and the two are not necessarily interchangeable.

I think cultural appropriation is often ignored for other people's comfort and that is not okay.

I think cultural appropriation is a spectrum.

I think cultural appropriation is a problem we wouldn't have if people knew how to better culturally exchange - and most of this is due to rampant capitalism.

Mmm I agree with you pretty much. I don't care how people wear there hair but I don't agree with them wearing cultural/religious/ceremonial garbs. For example my fathers Half Native American and it's a big deal in the community that people make Indian Halloween costumes using traditional head dresses. I would also side eye someone wearing a dashiki that wasn't of African decent

I don't consider hair styles to be culture Appropriation. I think that the outrage is due to the fact that when black women were wearing braids and cornrows it was called ghetto and trashy but when white women started wearing it it was said to be unique and trendy or something like that. I personally don't care because I don't wear cornrows or braids. I have wanted to get locs for a while but where I live there seems to be people who don't know how to do them as well as I'd like

Appropriation is a no but appreciation is ok. I hate when people where clothes/jewelry/symbols from other cultures incorrectly because they never bothered to research the meaning.
