When you respond that you are "Fine" do you mean it?

I am writing an Essay about "Are we all really Fine?".  Are people honest with themselves and others about their emotional state of being? Your comments are appreciated!

Nobody wants to hear your life story as they have their own stuff going on. It's just to be curtious and polite to say "I'm fine" or "I'm good/well". The only people I really tell how I'm feeling to is my fiancé and my family.

Fine pretty much means "im upset (about whatever), but not enough to talk about it with you, right now".

When I say I'm fine, I mean I'm fine. I think it's ridiculous that people(men and women do this, I've seen both) lie about their feelings and think that everyone else should automatically know if something is wrong. No one can read your mind.

My mom always gets mad when I describe my state of being as "fine". She doesn't believe it when people use that word
