Hello,

If you have a period do you ovulate? I had a misscarriage in January I'm now on my third period after ttc for 2 months with no joy I use clear blue digital ovulation tests and they said I've not been ovulating?  I've been having bad pains in my ovaries and heavy periods with blood clots been to doctors they are sending me for a scan I'm just worried something is wrong I'm 35 in june any advice thanks

You could still have bleeding like a period if you don't ovulate, but it's not an actual period. Basically your lining continues to build until your uterus can't sustain it anymore and it is shed.

From what I understand,  period is a result of ovulation. If you don't get one you haven't ovulated - don't quote me on that, I'm not 100% sure..

I was having similar issues. I miscarried end of November and in addition to erratic periods I was not getting any positive ovulation tests (also using clear blue digital). I decided to see a fertility specialist and it put my mind at ease. We are still gathering info but she can tell from ultrasounds and blood tests that I am ovulating. Part of it might be the timing of when you test. Part of it could also be that your LH surge is less than the test picks up. I'd recommend buying the cheaper OPKs (like on Amazon) and doing dip tests. That way you can see the lines and compare them day by day and see if you have a rise in LH to better time sex. I'd also recommend seeing a fertility specialist. I'm 35 and just didn't want to waste time if I didn't have to with trying on my own if there was a bigger problem. I hope this helps. Not guaranteed.  A period is the shedding of the lining the uterus built to allow an embryo to attach, but it would shed if nothing implants.  That could happen if you ovulated or if you did not ovulate.  The best way to know if you ovulated is to track your bbt.  Bbt spikes after ovulation because progesterone is created by the corpus leutium, the folicul that released an egg.  And that hormone raises your temps.
