Opinion on teen/young parents?

Question

I'm curious as to what you all think about young/teen parents! I know people who say it's horrible and that they are ruining their lives but I also know people who say it's no different than having a kid at an older age (20s/30s). I'm curious as to what the majority says! Feel free to leave a comment and explain your opinion of it too!

I'm a teen mom. Have been with my baby's father for over a year now. I'm currently 38.5 weeks pregnant. I completely think it depends really ... No one is 100% prepared to become a parent, no matter how ready they seem. I've seen teens better parents then adults, and adults better parents then teens. When I got pregnant, we were careful. Condoms + birth control ... Chances were slim, but they happened. There are teenagers out there (not saying all) that don't care what happens and in the end will get rid of the baby and kind of be like "whatever". I think it's very mature when a teen will give up their teenage years in orders to raise their child/chidren, it shows that they will take responsibility for their choices. So yes, it fully depends on the situation and decisions made ... That's just me though.

It's neither negative or positive. It is what it is. Instead of shaming teen parents we should provide them with a wealth of knowledge and support.

My mother got pregnant in the late 70's with my sister. At that time it was an awful thing. She was kick out of school as soon as the administration found out. Soon after she got married because that was the proper thing to do. Then three months after my sister was born my mother's husband was killed in a car crash. 
My mother had a hard life. She got her GED, worked three jobs just to support herself and my sister. People constantly shamed her but you know what? My mother worked her ass off, put herself through college and just retired at 58 after being a branch manager of a local bank for the last 10 years.
My sister got pregnant in the mid 90's. Due to the difference in social views she was allowed to finish high school. She did not attend college and got a job out of high school. She worked as an assistant in a real estate office. Through that job she taught herself all about real estate. She then took some classes and eventually got her real estate license. 
My mother was a teen mom and raised my sister who is an amazing person. My sister was a teen mother and raised my nephew (now 21) who is such an incredible, loving, and hard working young man.

Let's stop demonizing teen parents. Let's stop wasting our time with these stupid polls.
Instead let's provide comprehensive sexual health education, easy access to contraceptives, and support to those who do conceive children young.
Life tends to be tougher for teen parents but it's not impossible to make a good life for their child and themselves.

I've been in a relationship for 18 yrs now and we had our 1st child when I was 26 and boy we lived it up. Now I'm having my 2nd after 10 yrs 😩 it was fed a surprise. But now I have no need to party or do anything that does not include my son. I say it does matter. And I say because my hs friends weren't able to finish school or travel like I did and now they're partying and acting as if they have no kids. And it also depends on the person.

I have to agree with what Renn said, regardless of the situation you're in you are never ready to have a child. however, I personally think that having a baby as a teen is too young. I'm 26 years old and I'm having my first child, didn't feel like I was ready and I still don't BUT at least I'm happy that I was able to enjoy high school and graduate with all my friends. I was able to attend college and experienced the whole party scene, I  celebrated my 21st the way I wanted and was able to graduate. Now i have a place of my own and a full time job. I tell my younger siblings to enjoy their youth and travel!

No subject is ever black and white. There are some good teen moms and some bad and some that are in between. Just like with every other age and every other race and every other mom. Hell, every mom isn't her best every day and sometimes we're on top of it. I can't definitively say it's positive or negative. I personally love being done having children by 21, I have the energy and means to be with them now as opposed to being older. In 20 years when they're in college or starting a career my husband and I will still be young enough to adventure and experience the world but old enough that money won't be an issue. I think I've had my children at the perfect age with the perfect man.

If I could go back and money wasn't a issue I would have tried to have my kids as a teen. I was keen on the idea of being free by 40, but alas, society doesn't think a teen is smart enough to plan that far ahead so it never would have happened.
