What do you think of military schools for troubled teens?

Just wanna know what your thoughts are and if you'd send your kid there if he/he bahaves very badly/commites crimes etc.

Forcing a child to go to a school they're gonna hate isn't gonna make them do anything except rebel when they get out, AND dislike you even more for sending them in the first place.

I'm watching this happen to my cousin right now. His parents sent him to a military school because he smoked weed...once.

I would send my child to therapy if there were issues.  I am a pacifist and will discourage my children from all things military.

I would strongly consider family therapy as one person acting out is often a symptom of an issue in the family system.  I would be wary of labelling my child as the problem and be keen to examine my own role in the issues.

I'm not for military schools or anything military for that matter. I am fully capable of disciplining my child so they don't become the sort that will need to go to such places.

My husband is in the military. No need to send the kids anywhere. We can give them a taste of it at home (and we have before). They straighten up when we ask if the want to go to daddy's punishments.

I've never liked it. It might work for some kids but I'd never do it to mine. If the reason they're troubled is because of a mental illness, military school would just make things worse. My SO and I both have mental illness so our kids probably will too. So for us and our kids it wouldnt be a good idea. But like I said, it could work

I've never been to one or experienced one so I can't not comment.  I'd rather ask a previous student before I consider sending a kid there

I agree 100%. People see military they automatically think, omg they are too young. But military style camps are about discipline, respect and doing what's right. There is so much going on out there in the world... I am definitely considering it as an option.
