Making a Dress 1 Size Smaller?

I found a beautiful gown but it's 1 size too big  (it's a medium, and I wear small). Can a tailor make it 1 size smaller for me??

There is a good chance that it can be done. They usually say they can alter down 2-3 sizes.m but of corse it depends on the style etc.

Most designs can be taken in (to a certain extent) most problems are not having enough extra fabric to take the dress out

They may possibly be able to take it in for you, depending upon the design. Just take it to your tailor and ask them if they can do it.
