Has being anemic ever affected your period?

I am always anemic but my period makes it so much worse. I would be extremely sluggish and get terrible headaches, it got to the point where my gyno put me on a continuous cycle of birth control pills and I only have a period twice a year now so that I can manage the symptoms

I have a friend that is anemic and in the winter her period could last 2 weeks and then she would skip like 2 months until her next period... But after taking more iron her periods went back to normal.

When I first got my period around the age of thirteen it was immediately heavy, heavy, heavy! I would change my pad and it would be soaked through within the hour. Not very convenient, especially with school. When I was 15 my doctor told my that my iron was low and that it may be because of my heavy periods. So a month later I started taking oral BC which helped alleviate the problem. I got off after a year of taking it and my period got a bit heavier but nothing bothersome. Right now (I'm 20) I have the Skyla IUD which I've had for a year and my periods are non existent.

I always start getting migraines the 2nd day of my period until the end. I got pregnant and didn't have another migraine until the day after I had blood work done!

Anemia is a common side effect to getting a period, especially if it is a heavy flow. Remember, your period is considered blood loss as well.
