Would you/have you name your child after a family member or good friend?

Question

I'm just curious... I was named after my godmother (aka my mothers best friend). What are your thoughts?

I used my middle name for my first little girl.. Our middle name is Taz. It's a family name! And I'm having another little girl and using my late grandmothers name for her middle name! (Amelia Margaret) I think it's awesome to use family names or someone close to you! Very special and means a lot to you and that person.

My husband's name is the same as his dad's and his grandfathers,  etc. They have different middle names so there are no Jr's. He said he would hate to break transition,  but I dont like the idea of not having the choice. I love his name,  but I'm not a huge fan of naming a kid after their parent. I am hoping we can pick a good middle name and call him that. Or maybe we'll just have girls. ;)

I fully plan on naming our first girl after his mom, my mom, and my grandma. (Amelia Junerose). I just love the sound of them together. Hopefully, we have a girl as we cannot agree on a boy's name. DH would want to name him after his brother that passed away, but I hate that name. Plus, as much as I love him, I'd hate it if he turned out like him. Lovely wonderful guy and brother... Just aimless and reckless. I told DH I'd use his brother's name as a middle... But not a first. He didn't like my idea of the first name... My favorite name is Benjamin, he hates it, my other choice is MY brother's name, Jared. Which fits with Daniel (his brother's name). But he didn't like that Jared came first.... Shrugs

I play to. My daughter's middle name would be my mom's middle name (I already share a middle name with my grandma and both my mother in law and sister in law). My son would have my maiden name so it's also for my papa (since he also only has granddaughters that way the name could go on once more in a way) and my son's middle name would my my other grandpa's first name. My husband is fine with it so I'm happy.

​My SO & I decided on two names: Anastasia Louise (Louise is my grandmothers first name) & Kian Alexander (there's no real meaning behind this one...I've just always like the name) or Maurice Eugene (Maurice for my late cousin & Eugene because it's my dad's middle name).

I have both my kids my son is after my dad same middle name & my daughter is after my mom and Hubby's mom and my grandma ( mil & grandmother has same middle name too) my mom is Connie Dee my daughter is Kenadee ( Ann)
