What's a good amount of savings to have before having a baby?

I believe it is wise to have some emergency funds in an account with good interest ($1000-$5000) and a stable, decent paying job before having a baby. Our plan is to add to the savings each month of pregnancy, we have a set amount we will be adding to the "baby account" and then once baby is born we will continue to do so. We are aiming for $200-$400 each month as hubby and I are blessed with good paying careers, great benefits and we started our life insurance at a young age so we hardly pay anything for it. I think it's important to continue to contribute to the account throughout the pregnancy so when something comes up the money is there!

Answer

When/if I finally get pregnant we will put everything else on hold and just save money like crazy. We've got good insurance and a good sized emergency fund, but you never know what will happen with a baby. If something were to go wrong it could end up costing a lot! After the baby comes and is healthy we'll use the money for other things, but until then I would rather have it readily usable. So I don't think there's a specific amount, just save as much as you are able to :) good luck!
