Stripping membranes?

Does this hurt? Does it really work? Any dangers of it? My doctor said next week we can do this (I'll be 39 weeks). Please share any experiences. Thanks!

It will help if your body is receptive.  Meaning it won't do anything if you're still too far out from labor.  If done right, yes it will probably hurt, the degree varries from woman to woman.  Mine hurt like a bitch!  I would not recommend it before 39 weeks.  My office won't even bother prior to that anyway.

Had mine at noon, went into labor around 2AM. Not sure how someone couldn't feel when it was being done though.. lol

I had mine done last week at 38 weeks. I didn't even realize he was doing it until it was done, so no pain at all. I'm still pregnant unfortunately so it didn't work for me. You'll experience some spotting and possibly some cramping. Good luck, I hope it helps you more than it did me!

I'll be getting mine done on Thursday so I was curious as well. I've heard mixed comments before from some saying that it was very painful and some saying that they didn't even notice so I'm sure it just depends. Fingers crossed for us both that it works and is not painful! 😀

I had mine down 3 times with my son and the only reason it worked with him was because my doc did it while I was already in labor.. This time I've had it down 2 times.. Once at 37weeks and once again yesterday at 38 weeks. It's very uncomfortable and all it did was make me cramp and bleed a little. It's been 24 hours so far and nothing.

It depends on the person, but I had it done 3x with my last kid. Most painful thing ever! I joke you not. Maybe you'll be lucky and maybe I'm sensitive, but it did nothing for me but make me cry...

It depends on the dr, mine didn't hurt. I also didn't have any spotting and the contractions were mild, so I was able to ignore them. My dr said if it was to induce labor then it would have happened within the 24-48 hours after it was done. I suggest a few hours of walking to help. I had mine stripped on a Monday and did four hours of walking Tuesday at the mall with my friend. Then three more hours Tuesday and about 2 on Saturday. I'm 39+2 and while it may not have worked for me, it might for you.

I did lose my plug, so at least I made progress of some sort. There's always that!
