Stay at Home Mom???

Question

Has anyone gone from a full time/high intensity job to a stay at home mom? I'm about to make the transition and I don't know what to expect! I'm pregnant with my first and am also in the military. My husband and I are stationed apart and are working to try to be together which will mean me becoming a stay at home mom for a while. It will be a huge change with me going from working full time and living by myself to living with my husband for the first time and working a very different job at home!  I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar!

I haven't gone through this yet, but I'm going to stop working when the baby comes. I'd say your transition is going to be hard. But you can do it. It'll be a total pace change for you and a huge adjustment. Just make sure to have some extra stuff to keep you occupied since you're used to being on the go. Also on living with your husband, my first year of marriage was really hard! It was a huge adjustment for me. Don't give up, it does get better after that first year. This might be way too weird and out in left field for you, but the book called The Surrendered Wife really helped me. I'm extremely stubborn and strong willed and learning to respect my husband and help him to feel trusted and admired and respected by me was really key to a good relationship. Yes it sounds so old school but it really works. Best of luck to you.

Where I live we get 1 year of maternity leave so with every baby j go from working full time outside of the house to being at home full time with the kids for a year. My tip would be not to let yourself get cooped up and bored. It depends on your personality, some women seem to like to stay home most of the time but for me I get crazy if I feel trapped in the house all day.

Look into play groups and community resources. You'll probably be surprised how much is out there when you look. I started taking my first out to 0-12 month play groups at just a month old. Obviously he wasn't getting much out of it but i needed 
The social interaction, plus they are an amazing place to learn about all things baby related! By around 8 months we needed those groups! I felt like even though we had a million toys, my son would get bored and frustrated being at home all day. We went out for at least a couple of hours almost every day!
