An elective hysterectomy???

Question

I am due August 19 with our fourth and last child and will be getting my tubes tied after wards. I am just wondering if I could get an elective hysterectomy instead of getting my tubes tied? There is nothing medically wrong with my reproductive organs but we don't want any more children and I know having my tubes tied I can still get pregnant..

And I completely forgot about the going in to menopause earlier, so I think I'll just stick to getting my tubes tied.

I have a friend who did that practically immediately after having her baby (like 3 or 4 weeks maybe) and she was very happy she did. All the other concerns are valid, (early menopause, etc) but she was happy she did it!

Yeah don't do it, you'll mess up with your hormone levels...

No maam, not worth the risk. They can tie cut and burn your tubes. That's as permanent as it gets.  If you get pregnant after that then it was meant to be.

Going through menopause right after having a baby would be quite the emotional rollercoaster. I'd ask your healthcare provider about it affecting your milk and I know with cesarean it's not recommended.

You can have a hysterectomy and they can leave your ovaries to prevent the onset of menopause. Most doctors don't like to do elective hysterectomies though.

Depends on your age my dr told me no with my last pregnancy when I was 26 and now I'm pregnant again at 28

I had a aunt that had one, and she gained a tremendous amount of weight shortly after. She said something about her hormones that caused the imbalance in her body.

I would definitely not put yourself in menopause for no reason it puts you at increased risk for other complications down the line.

There are other long lasting options that are very effective too - the implant, IUD. They're not permanent but last years.
