Depends on the relationship. My husband and I have a friend who has children and we don't spend much on their gifts because we don't really have a relationship with them. However, we have another friend who has children and they call us Auntie/Uncle. We spend an exorbitant amount on them. So I guess ask yourself is this gift out of obligation or because you have a relationship with this child.

This really depends. Like, I have friends whose kids I have spent $20-$30 on and friends whose kids I have spent an upwards of $60-$80 on. Typically the more I know the parents/child and how much time I've spent with them (example: does the kid know me or am I just mom/dad's friend they see on occasion) will depict how much is spent. Some friends only want to visit when it's their child's or their bday.
