Are used car seats safe?

A friend of a friend just gave me two Chicco car seats from her kids. I appreciate it but was planning on buying them brand new. I've heard mixed reviews about used car seats. Does anyone know what I should do? Are they safe or no?

Used is more than fine!!  Just check expiration date and make sure the seat has never been in an accident.

If they are not expired or have been in an accident then yes! Take your car seat to a fire department if you are unsure and ask if they can do a safety check!

I read that they might be safe if they have never been involved in any crash, if the were not expire, if they have all the tags attached and if they were not recalled.

We were offered one but passed- you just never know! One was even offered from someone I know and trust... but again I feel so much better buying a new one!

My mom says they r not safe. I got two from someone too..she says they have been adjusted so that's what makes them not safe... The ones I got look brand new

Save those for ur parents or husband car buy u a new one yes it is safe as long as they have been in a car accident... I will be needing like 4 seats all together
