Has anyone gotten tattoos while on blood thinners?

Has anyone gotten tattoos while on blood thinners? For example, Warfarin for heart problems?

I'm going to ask my doctor in a week. That's when I have my doctor's appointment but I'd just like to know if anyone has had experience.

I've gotten four while on Warfarin and never once had a problem. Had my nose pierced twice, also. The nose bled a little but my tattoos never bled at all. I never talked to my doctor or the artist about it. The chance of any bleeding with a tattoo is pretty low as it is, just small broken vessels. The artist just wipes away and keeps going.

Now, if your INR is out of whack or  super high, it's not a good idea at all. If your INR is steady in therapeutic range there is no worry. I'll go back to Warfarin after breastfeeding (on Lovenox while pregnant) and I assure you I will have many more tattoos to come!

Definitely discuss that with your doctor before moving forward. If your doctor gives you the green light make sure that you let the tattoo artist know. They may want a written letter from your doctor that it's okay to precede in order to protect them from liability.

I would think its not the best idea to do so considering while getting a tattoo you would bleed and probably bleed more than normal.
