Doctor isn't a fan of delayed cord clamping??

Question

We asked what his opinion was and he said it's basically not good for the baby. I've sat here for 33 weeks doing extensive research on so many things on what would be best for my baby and I truly don't understand why he is against it. He said it's too much blood for the baby and raises their levels higher than needed. I'm aware doctors aren't required to update their information, and he's an older fashioned Doctor, who delivered me in fact so I'm 100% sure he's basing all of his information on 30+ years back. So if the baby can't breathe right away, or has oxygen issues and the cord is clamped right away like he wants, what, she's screwed. That cord is literally so important. Does anyone have any opinions on this or why you think he's against this? Since he is against it, does that mean he won't allow me to delay her cord clamping? Very confused now.

Put your foot down. It's your body, your child, and YOU have to live with the decisions made. He doesn't. If he won't do it, find someone else who will or simply say that your SO wants to do it. Then your so can wait until youre ready.

I'm blessed. I have a young doctor and that's all he does. He's been very easy to work with.

We are waiting until I birth the placenta to cut the cord. With my research this is best, as you stated. It's your baby and body and your doc needs to respect your wishes. I will say though, I had a friend who asked for delayed clamping and the doc "milked" the cord toward the baby as they didn't know how to delay properly and this caused some jaundice. Make sure your doc knows what you want!

I'm going to ask the same of my doctor. I hope I don't get kick back. You are correct though. Research shows the baby is getting the last of the oxygen and blood the body was meant to provide. The benefits are outstanding

I've always had delayed cord clapping when able, the only ones I wasn't able to do this was my 2 kids that came out with the cord around their necks. I'm pregnant with my 6th baby now and will be requesting this again. He might not be a fan but make sure he knows you want it and put it in your birthplan and take extra copies to the hospital with you and pass out to nurses and staff.

I wanted it but my guy had pooped they couldn't let him take his first breathe till that was cleaned out etc so no delayed clamping for me

I would say yes he probably will. A lot of times Drs will go with what they know or what they are comfortable with and try to sway you from a thing else, and they'll use every argument they can think of to stop you, including saying you're gonna risk your kids life etc. Honestly if he's not willing or is against doing things the way you want them done for your baby, you should consider looking into finding a different dr who WILL do what you want for your baby. ❤️

Well, some docs delay for 30 sec, a min, until cord stops pulsing, etc. Maybe you could talk to him about something in between full delay (unless cord stops) etc...in the end your baby, your choice. Maybe he's not up to date on all the research.
