Going on maternity leave

I'm am 28 weeks pregnant and I work at a daycare there are 2 other ppl that I work with. I'm just wondering when would be a good time to go on maternity leave? I work with kids ages 8 months to 4 yrs and I do lift these kids a lot and I have a lot of back pain and my legs and feet hurt constant. I just want to go on maternity leave so I can get ready for baby and just relax till she gets here. So when is it best to do it?

Sorry, I always thought maternity leave was for after baby was born.

It all depends on the job. You could take Maternity leave from the first day you find out your pregnant but you are only allowed a certain amount of paid leave. My job requires me to take it once I am 7 months due to being a lone worker looking after elderly people in their own homes.

Also, if you go now you will have used up all 12 weeks covered under fmla by the time baby does come.

same , as long as you can keep going and your doctor hasn't say anything about it I think you can work until baby is ready to meet you.

It's pretty standard where I'm from to go on Maternity Leave around 36weeks. I would talk to your Dr/midwife and see what they recommend. Each pregnancy is different. Also I guess it depends how long you are taking leave for and whether starting it early will cut it short after baby is born.

With #1 I worked all the way through. I had a doctor's appointment after work and doctor said I needed to be induced that night (4 days b4 my due date).  With #2 I was exhausted because I had a toddler running around and I was working full time, so I went on leave 1 week b4 I was due. I needed the time to rest and get things ready.  I guess it all depends on your situation and advice from your doctor.

I had a lady who went on maternity leave about a week before the baby. We work in a preschool and she works with the two year old class. So she's always on her feet!

I went on leave two weeks before I was due on doctor's orders. The downside to that was that I had to go back two weeks early after my daughter was born. My leave was a set 12 weeks so whether I left on time or early that was all I got.

I worked as a care provider in a group home and worked until a week before I delivered.

My Mum worked up until 2 weeks before she had me, my friend at work is leaving 4 weeks before she's due. It depends on where you work because I know someone else who worked as far in as she could so she can have more time off when her baby came
