What's the difference between a boyfriend and a husband?

Is the only difference between a boyfriend and a husband, a ring & time?

Boyfriends tend to be more disposable . Meaning it's easier to break up than get a divorce . 
Why ? Because once you're married your life is meshed together . Where you live , pay your bills , spend holidays ect ... 
With a boyfriend you can still make plans and do things without giving it much thought but when you're married you always have to think of your husband when making plans ( at least I do ) 
Some couples already have this bond without being married . In my experience once I married and moved in with my husband a lot of things changed .

When I was engaged, we had owned a home together and interlinked finances. We joked that we wouldn't even feel married because nothing changed. BUT the strange thing was, it did feel different. There is something about knowing he made that commitment to me. We've been together 8.5 years.

That and being married comes with a certain legal commitment. I can make decisions in the event of his death. I can make decisions in the event of major injury or hospital stay. I receive his life insurance should he pass away. My husband was engaged before me. She died in a horrific car crash. It was abundantly clear that he had zero rights to their property and her wishes for cremation. She was buried against her wishes because her estranged mother had all of the rights. Marriage is more than just paper.

It depends on the relationship and how long someone's been together. My boyfriend and I started out as a new couple, but now we live together, share a bank account, own a house, and are having a baby. Although our title hasn't changed, our relationship sure has! There's no difference between us and a married couple with the exception of the same last name, I suppose? Our commitment to each other would be no different if we were married and we're happy in the stage we're at with no current plans of marrying. Perhaps one day, but it wasn't something that was important to either of us.

Well if you live with your boyfriend, then yhe only real difference is a piece of paper and a ring. My SO and I have lived together for over 3 years. We have the time, the commitment, the love, we pay bills together, spend holidays together and with family; we're a team. The only reason we don't say we're married is because we don't have rings and a piece of paper. That's it.

To me no. Being someone's husband is the ultimate commitment to being there for them, being a total support system, promising to work through anything, take on any challenge. Before I married my husband, yes we were partners and would work through things and support each other but I didn't feel the finality I feel being married. That's just me though.

Years before my husband and I were even married (or engaged) we called each other husband and wife. We had been together for so long and had a baby together; we were 110% committed to each other even when the relationship seemed impossible. The word(s) boyfriend/girlfriend just didn't adequately describe what we were to each other.

To me, you don't need marriage to be husband and wife, you just need unwavering love and commitment.
