I'll be 37 this year and I have no children, I tried for years back when I was married but it just didn't happen. I've decided at the age of 40 that I'd like to go ahead and have my tubes tied. If I should get pregnant before then I'll probably still go ahead and have it done at 40. I'm currently dating a man much older than me that has his only child and had a vasectomy 11 yrs ago. I haven't discussed this with him yet but I'm past the point of hoping for a miracle. I do still realize I have a couple years left but at 40 I just don't want to go through a pregnancy let alone have a baby. 

Has anyone gone through this at an older age? Do I have to prepare for the doctor to talk me out of it?
