Periods on metformin
I've been taking metformin since the beginning of November. I got af the day after I took my first tablet and had a 32 day cycle then a 30 day cycle then 31 days then last month I missed a few doses and ended up with a 39 day cycle.
This month is my shortest cycle so far and it's been unusual for me. I got cramps late on Sunday CD 29, and I started spotting right before bed, which surprised me because both apps I use were predicting another week before af was due. So I went to bed hopeful but woke up the next day to really bad cramps and af.
Sorry this is TMI but the blood was really thick and there was a fair bit as I'd been lying down all night, but not as much as normal. The whole of Monday I had cramps but although the blood was really thick and there were a few clots there wasn't really that much of it. If would go from pretty much nothing to every so often a gush of thick blood with small clots(mainly when I used the bathroom)
Then yesterday I had no more cramps and my bleeding followed the same pattern but lighter. Barely anything on my towel just every so often thick blood with small clots when I used the bathroom. And then by the afternoon there was barely any bleeding and today I'm just spotting again.
My periods are normally heavier and longer than this and the pain usually lasts longer. I normally have a 5-6 day flow that lightens around the 4th day. The clots are normal for me though.
Is it normal to have weird periods and lighter periods when you take metformin? I haven't missed a dose for 7 weeks now, I learnt my lesson. I've looked up implantation bleeding but because of heavy cramping, clots and the odd heavy blood flow I think it's unlikely and I don't want to get my hopes up I'm just really confused.
