How often does baby feed?

Question

I have an almost 3 week old and she has started feeding about every 2 hours at night. Is this normal? My aunt told me that I need to get her on a 4 hour schedule and that "I'm the boss", but I just don't feel good denying her the breast when she wants it. I feel she's still too young for that.

At what point do you start trying to regulate things for them??

At 3 weeks the baby is the boss. Not you. If your baby is waking up every 2 hours at night they are hungry. Don't listen to old school advice. You need to do what you are comfortable with but honestly at such a your age they need to eat that often.

My health visitor for my little boy has always told me, FEED BABY ON DEMAND not schedule, if you try and schedule a babies feeding pattern there stomachs might not be fully emptied from the previous feed so their basically just 'topping up' which can then cause them to feed again a lot sooner. 
If your breast feeding make sure baby is actually feeding when waking and not just doing it for comfort because some babies do it just do for comfort. 
My baby who's 3 weeks old feeds on demand, he feeds every 3 hours through day, last feed is 10pm and doesn't wake for another till 2:30am then the 3 hours start from there.

My baby isn't due until June but I will be feeding on demand. I just do not believe it is possible to spoil an infant and I don't think it's fair to put them on a schedule. They don't know! There is plenty of time later to be the boss ☺

Feed on demand. There's no way to tell how much they are during a feeding so please pay attention to babys hunger cues and feed her. You're her mom so you know best

That is very normal. They go through stages of feeding more often go increase your milk supply. My daughter is almost 3 weeks and she has gone from 3-4 hour feeds, to 2.5 hour feeds at the moment. Likely a growth spurt. Feed you baby when it is hungry. When older you can set more of a routine

I am ebf so my son feeds on demand. Easily more than 20 times a day, every 2-2.5 hours.  With formula fed babies it's different cuz they stay full longer so you could prob go every 3-4 hours.

Feed on demand!! Babies are extremely clever. They build your mature milk supply by cluster feeding and feeding on demand. They are the boss if you want to continue successfully breastfeeding!!
