Potty Training advice?

When and how did you start potty training? 
Any specific tips for boys?

I have a 4 year old that I potty trained last year. We tried to do so when he was 2, but it just didn't seem to stick. What I did, and I actually got this advise from my coworker, is let him pick out some super cool underwear, and then also get some like tighty whities or, for my son it was boxer briefs because he didn't like the feeling of the long legs. For 3 days (I took time off to train him) just take off the training pants or pull ups, and as soon as they wake up, put the underwear on. Explain that they can have cool undies if they don't have an accident. Monitor drink intake and such. An accident is bound to happen, but that's good, because then you take the cool undies, and put on the not so awesome undies and explain that if they have an accident, they don't get to put cool undies back on. It took my son about 6 hours before he consistently went in the potty. For naptime we went back to the pull ups for the first 2 days, and at night for about 2 weeks we made sure that he had extra protection on. But by day three, he was going in his little potty and the only accidents he has now, are when his aim fails.
