What happens first? I'm curious to know

Question

So I'm a FTM and I'm curious to know if your mucus plug is suppose to come out first before your water breaks, or is it possible for it to come out when your water breaks.

How did it all happen to you? (For everyone who have kids or have given birth already)

P.S 
I'm so enjoying this pregnancy and I am not rushing this baby out of me anytime soon. I am not what so ever uncomfortable or tired or anything. I'm 38+3 weeks

I just gave birth on the 14th and my mucous plug never came out. But I did start contracting 2 days prior on the 12th and my water broke on the night of the 13th. Everyone is different.

I had been losing my plug for a couple weeks. I started having mild contractions 5 mins apart. Lost a long stringy piece (sorry tmi) of my plug with one contraction and my water broke with the next.

I just gave birth 4 days ago and didn't lose my plug or have bloody show until I was several hours into labor and walking around the hospital. They later broke my water for me.

With my first I think I lost my plug in bits & pieces over the last 2 weeks.

I lost my mucous plug at 36 weeks and I'm now 39 weeks and haven't broken my water or am even dilated.

With me (my first pregnancy) I lost my mucus plug first then 3 days later had my baby. I went to the hospital because my contractions were 5 minuets apart I got admitted at 12 am I was 3 cm dilated, my water didn't break until hours later that day when I was around 7 cm

With my first child I didn't notice losing a mucus plug, my waters broke. This time I have lost the mucus plug just over a week ago and still nothing..It probably depends on the woman I was having signs of labour after but this week nothing. Good luck x

My waters have never broken on their own, never lost mucus plug, contractions just start with a vengeance! I just delivered baby #5 five days ago.

With my first pregnancy I didn't notice my mucous plug come out and my water didn't break either. I went into the hospital with labor pains that I couldn't handle and was 3cm already so they kept me. I had her at 37+1. 
With this last pregnancy I lost my mucous plug at 37 weeks while in the shower. & my water broke at 39+6. Had him on his due date.

I didn't even notice if I lost my mucus plug.  I experienced my first real contraction at noon on a day when I already had an appointment, and my water broke at the same time.  My contractions were consistent in length and really strong.  I called my doc and she said to come to my appointment, where they did an ultrasound and saw no fluids.  They sent me to the hospital, and 7 hours after my first contraction my son was born.  I was 36+5.  But every labor is different.  This was my first, and was unusually quick for a ftm.
