How long does Depo take to start working?

I got the shot in the evening on Tuesday, so about five days ago. How long will it take to start being effective. This was my first depo and I'd like to have sex in about... 30 minutes, but I'm in my fertile window and don't know if I should or not.

If you got the shot within 5 days of your period's beginning or you were transferring straight from one hormonal method to another you are protected. Otherwise you are supposed to wait 7 days before having unprotected sex, so use a condom if that is the case.
