Help? Long haired cat.

Question

I have an indoor long haired black cat, he loves the outdoors and I'm considering letting him be both outdoor and indoor. I live in Florida and am concerned about the heat and sandspurs. I googled but couldn't find much help. Anyone here know or have an opinion if Florida's conditions are ok for a fluffy, long haired kitty?

I live in Florida, and I personally would never let my cats be outdoor cats. There's so many sick strays where I live, I'd be worried about them hurting my kitty's, or passing illnesses to them. Also FLEAS! They get horrible in Florida in the summer, i would never let my cats outside.

I would get the cat trimmed. My cousin has her long-haired cat groomed and he looks like a tiny lion!!! I wish I had a picture, but it is so he doesn't get too hot or matted in the summer when he goes outside.

I don't know much about Florida conditions but I know being an outdoor cat can cut their lifespan in half :(

But I know it isn't easy to say no when a cat is begging to go out. Maybe get an outdoor cat enclosure or try taking him out on walks?
