Do you believe in converting religions for marriage?

Question

I know plenty of people who have converted to certain religions for their partners. I am 100% against it. What are your thoughts?

Nope!! I would never convert for anyone. I find it appalling that someone who claims to love you wont marry you unless you become jewish or muslim etc. If you are single and want to convert because you honestly feel like your life could gain something from that religion then go for it. However doing it for a spouce is horrible.

If my SO decided he didn't want to be with me cause he believes in god and I don't, then bye, I love you, but kick rocks. I would never go from not believing to believing for the sake of a relationship. I'll never be married in a church, I'll never go to church on Sundays and I'll never read the bible to my kids. If I can accept he's a believer and still love him then I'd expect the same in return. But if not, then it wasn't meant to be.

Converting religions is something that should only happen if/when a change occurs in your heart. It should never happen just to please someone else.

If they actually believe in the religion then that's fine, but they shouldn't convert just to convert.

My husband and I were different religions and we still got married, which was actually a big sacrifice for me.  He recently got baptized and joined my church though, so I'm really happy and excited about it! (He's always gone to church with me though, just hadn't actually joined)

I'm personally not a religious person, so for me I wouldn't be ok with "choosing" someone else's religion just to get married.

I don't believe in converting religions for any reason. How can you say that all your life you believe one thing then suddenly believe something else? If you are only doing it to please your partner or her/his family then it means even less. You either still hold your old ideas and are faking the new ones, or you give up everything in an instant and completely change. That's one reason I am an atheist. I thought your religious beliefs were supposed to be a deep part of you. If you can change them so quickly and easily, it doesn't say much for the strength of your convictions.
