Whens the best time to do a test?

I've recently had sex with my boyfriend but the condom broke and and I want to take a test for peace of mind but I'm not to sure when the right time for me to take a test is

It's a tough one to answer because they say the longer you leave it say a week or two you're more likely to get an accurate result. Personally I'd wait until the next period if it wasn't too far away and if it didn't come then do a test? :-/
