What would u do?

Okay so my SO has a sister that claimed she was kidnapped by a woman at school. So the police and FBI worked day in and day out to find this girl. About 30 hours later, she was found in an apartment. We are not sure what she told police but she told her family she was kidnapped by this woman still. A day later, today, she came clean and explained that she simply ran away. She had a friend drop her off in a city an hour away, where she met a man that opened his apartment up to her so essentially she was safe. Well now that she's home, her family is doing nothing to punish her and actually rewarding her so she does not get depressed. From the looks of it, she has depression but we don't know for sure. How would u handle this situation if it were your child? And no I'm not budding in because it's their daughter, they can deal with it however. But yeah, what would u do punishment wise? No punishment in fear of causing more depression? Phone taken away? What?
