Am I the only one?

Question

I feel like I'm the only one asking my doctor NOT to check my cervix. I don't want my membranes swept either. I don't want crazy thoughts of "oh man, this is it! I'm 2cm dialated this baby is coming!" Or "I haven't dilated at all, this baby is never coming!" I also want my body to naturally go into labor. It'll happen when it's supposed to happen, why make myself uncomfortable with unnecessary tearing from a doctor?

My midwife doesn't do that until you are in labor. Which I don't think it tells you that much about when labor will start so I rather not anyway

To each their own. A lot of women don't get flustered by their cervical checks - the posts you see are *only* from women who do, typically. The ones who take it all in stride don't bother posting about it.

I've been checked many times this pregnancy, but when you go into labor at 32 weeks, it's important for your doctors to know if your cervix is changing or not. Now that I'm 36 weeks, I'm very aware I could spend the next 4-5 weeks pregnant, and I'm totally fine with that. However, I also know that the odds are fairly slim that will happen, so we're completely prepared for baby to come whenever. To me, knowledge is power, but I can definitely understand why others would rather not know.

I don't get checked, my office doesn't do it they say that it's pointless. My OB says "when it's time your body will let you know, so there's no need to check, unless you are having real contractions" I want to know how many cm I am because everyone else knows.. And it just makes me feel a little left out. But like my OB said when it's time my body will let me know

I got checked so that I would know if all this uncomfortableness is all for not. Honestly I was driving myself crazy any way wondering if it was or wasn't so I wanted to be checked so that if I was progressing I could chill out! I agree that I have no desire to be stripped of induced. Baby will come when he is ready. It just helps me to feel more sane. Oddly enough.

I haven't decided whether I will have my cervix checked at 37w appt.  Since a whole lot of nothing is going on so far, I don't see the point.  Even if I were dilated a little, I know it wouldn't progress without contractions.

I'm almost 38 weeks and I haven't been checked, don't really care to be checked to be honest. He said he will check Wednesday at my next appointment if I want but I'm kinda like no. I also don't want my membranes swept either. She will come when the good Lord and her are ready. I don't think getting checked really tells you anything because you can be at a certain cm for weeks at a time. Only reason I feel I should be checked, is if I think my water had broken. But that's just me, I'm kinda self conscious with my body and don't want "people" messing around down there more than need be

My midwifery practice doesn't check until you get to the hospital in labor.  They said there is no point in checking earlier. Thank goodness!

I won't get checked until I'm in labour.. and that's not likely until I'm ready to push to check there's no cervical lip remaining.  No need to know dilation in a healthy pregnancy (and when you aren't on a time limit when you're in labour thank god!).

It's important when your getting a repeat c section though. They need to check and make sure your not in progressing labor because if your dilating they take you into the OR right then so as to not risk an unwanted VBAC. Some women have to have themselves checked for safety reasons like that.

I wanted to no where I was at.. but I regret it now lol I was told at 36 weeks i was 1cm and 40 effaced and lost mucous plug.. next week I went up to 3 cm still 40 effaced.. Dr was convinced I would have baby maybe by next appointment from how I was progrssing.. here I am almost 39 weeks 4cm still 40 effaced.. Lol like i was thinking omg any day..  now I'm still sitting here with anxiety lol but then again thinking I'll make it t due date lol
