Do you get along with your step child?

I love my daughter, but she is so different from my son. She is older but she cries for everything. It is very annoying at times.

My step kids are 11 and 15. When my husband and I got together his son (the one that is now 15) was 12 and lived with him. Something happened the summer he turned 14 and life got VERY hard! Like I almost left hard. His son decided his dad had to chose between him and me and decided to leave and live with his mom when my husband refused to choose. My step son then told my husband that he made his coice and left. Every time he would come to our house after that it was a nightmare! There were a lot of other things going on that made the situation worse such as us having stricter rules than his mom.....let's just say she wanted to be his friend and not his mom. He was (and still is) allowed to do things at her house that no one should be doing at 15. Things are much better now but he still has those times when he wants to act out at our house.

I do not have a step child but I am a step kid. And from the beginning my step mother never got along with my sisters and I. She has her own son from another marriage and she'd always work us to the bone and allow her son to sit and do whatever he wanted. When I was in third grade I had to do my own laundry and scrub the floors and walls but her son which is the same age as I am would never have to do anything. She would allow
Him to sit up in his room and shed do his laundry and cater to him. And she would always yell at my sisters and I for absolutely no reason (ex: we are holding the broom wrong when sweeping) and then she'd get us in trouble with my dad. And my dad always took her side.

I met my SO when my step son was 18 months old and he loves me. But I often worry when he's older he may feel resentment
