Help please

Here's the thing , I was with this guy for one year and my parents loved him so much . They thought so highly of him . My parents liked him more then they have ever liked anyone else I've dated . Wellllllllllll he cheated on me , we broke up but idk how to tell my parents we are broken up . Do I tell them or wait for them to ask? Idk . I don't want my parents to be upset or something .
