Missed period negative test

Last month I had a chemical pregnancy and lost it very early on but did get a positive test  very early on. This should be my next cycle after having it but it's been 4 andweeks and still no period and my cycles are usually very short. I have been having pregnancy symptoms but I've tested and it says negative ! Could I be pregnant and it isn't showing on the test yet or what else would cause this ?
