Closed cervix

Has anybody been told that their cervix is still completely closed and hard at 40 weeks? Just wondering if anyone has any positive stories of spontaneous labour following this, or whether induction is inevitable. And if so, will induction actually work to soften the cervix or is a c section more likely? 😳
