Is a swing absolutely necessary?

Question

We have all kinds of baby containing devices and contraptions, but we don't have anything that's self-propelled, like a swing. It's mostly a space consideration. Think we'll be ok without one or should be reprioritize? Thanks!

There are very few baby things that are actually "necessary." Lots of people find swings helpful. We have a really small house so we've decided on just a bouncy chair that vibrates. My cousin never used anything but her bouncy chair, but my sister swore by her swing so I think it depends on the baby. Don't let anyone tell you a product is "absolutely necessary" unless it's like, a diaper or something haha.

I didn't get a swing but i did get the Fisher Price Rock n Play. I heard from many many mom's this was a life saver. I plan on putting him in his room right away in his crib but if necessary I will use this in our room vs setting up a bulky pack n play.

As long as you have some place to put the baby down, you're fine. There are so many things we think we NEED for our babies, but really all they NEED is love, clean diapers, food, & a place to sleep 😘 (I will also totally admit that we have a swing, rock n' play, crib, pack n' play, & baby bouncer, but we purchased them all used & super cheap 😉)

We all most likely were raised without swings. I do have a mamaroo but we had no room in our tiny house for the multiple other swings we were given. My friends said we can't survive without them, I reminded them these things did not exist until the past decade or 2 at the most.

I never used one. I figure if they need one to fall asleep, it's going to be hell trying to get them to fall asleep in their own crib when the time comes.

You might be ok, but I know I needed one. My baby loved his swing, and a lot of nights it was the only way I got him to fall asleep! Not every baby is super dependent on swings, though. I would say wait. Get one later if you really think you need it

Honestly it saved my life with my first. She was NOT a sleeper and it was the only thing that would calm her. Hoping my second will like the swing too.

It's really up to you if you want to get one or not. My first child hated the swing, it was a waste of money for us. This time around I got a rock and play. Only paid 5 bucks for it during a sale at Toys R Us a few moths back so no money lost if baby boy hates it when he gets here :)

Thanks! That's the general plan, but then I watched that "happiest baby on the block" movie last night that was all "swings are crucial" and started to doubt myself.
