Pregnant lesbian problems

Licia • TTC our rainbow baby.

*THIS IS A RANT*

My wife and I, we are lesbians, have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. We finally got our BFP this month and after doctors appointments confirmed our pregnancy, we announced it to close family and friends.

Now this is where I get irritated. Instead of the typical "CONGRATULATIONS! I'M HAPPY FOR YOU!" It's more like

"How did you do it?"

"Did you do IVF?"

"Did you sleep with a guy?

"Turkey baster?"

My response? What position did you conceive your child in? Doggy? Missionary? Awkward question isn't it?

I always feel so violated when people ask me these questions. It is personal and in my opinion completely inappropriate.

I mean, when we see a, pregnant, heterosexual couple the most common assumption is that they had sex. We don't ask "What position were you in?"

So why is it that when we see a pregnant lesbian couple we know, if you've ever taken a health class, that they had to do something with sperm to get pregnant, but choose to ask them about it? Why is it not inappropriate to do so? If your curious google it. Don't ask me.

It's none of your business how we conceived our child instead of asking, just stick to the congratulations part of it.

End rant.
