Post baby registry on Facebook?

Question

I am having a baby shower close to home but most of our friends and my entire side of the family are in another state (we moved a year ago). Would it be terribly tacky to post our baby registry links to Facebook for those who won't even be invited to the shower because they are out of state?

What Is the best way to let others know about the registry if we don't plan to send them shower invites because of this?

You send them a proper shower invite with the registry on it.

Super tacky to ask them to logon to your registry with out an invite in my opinion.

I would send them an invite regardless of the distance. Then they will be more likely to get you a gift despite the distance. I personally wouldn't buy a gift for a shower I was not personally invited to.

If you are not inviting these people to your shower then it is incredibly tacky to post your registry online for them to see. It only makes it look like all you care about is people sending you gifts. 
If these people want to send you gifts, they will ask if you are registered somewhere and send you a gift. Please do not post your registry online

One thing I did for all of my family and friends out of state was send them invites anyway. Instead of playing games I had a onesie decorating shower so I added a piece on the invite to say "if you cannot attend in person but would still like to participate please feel free to decorate a onesie and send it!" I also asked for books instead of cards and a good handful of people out of state sent onesies and books, and thanked us for being included.

Super super tacky!! I had a few relatives out of state and I just sent them invites even though they can't make it. That way they can see the registry and they can decide if they want to get us something

Thanks so much everyone! We have friends who had a baby a few months ago and did post their registry on Facebook stating something like "we have just a few weeks til baby arrives and need a lot of things still!" 
I absolutely thought it was tacky at the time but asked for us because I didn't know if this was the "new thing" to do!

I honestly hadn't thought of sending shower invites to those who I know can't come, but I feel like I would love to get an invite to feel included if I was on the other end and we do have friends who have already asked for the registries anyway. Sending them invites is the perfect solution and I love the idea of asking them to decorate onesies too!

If if they are out of state, if you expect presents you should send an invite. you can mail them one or simply make an event on Facebook. It's so tacky and a little rude to just put out there that you want gifts from someone but couldn't even be bothered to invite them to the shower.

Most of my family is out of state. I sent them invites even though I knew most couldn't come. I think it's a little tack to post online, least send them an invite to know they are welcome...
